Amy Ruman: Lime Rock 2012 Season Opener featuring Trans-Am & Royals Car Show

Driver’s site: http://www.rumanracing.com/

The following text is courtesy of the really fast and really cool people at Lime Rock Park!

“It was Memorial Day weekend of 1999 that Trans Am last headlined at Lime Rock Park. Brian Simo battled and beat Chris Neville, both in Mustangs, chased by a covey of Corvettes and Camaros.

And now Trans Am is back.

Trans Am, “America’s Road Racing Series” since 1966, returns Saturday, May 26, for Lime Rock’s Season Opener.

And it’s still Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes – and Jags – banging on each other for road racing supremacy.

You’ll see the 2011 Trans Am champ Tony Ave in his Vette, which is also the car of choice for the first woman to ever win a Trans Am race, Amy Ruman. Simon Gregg, son of the late superstar Peter, is also in a Corvette. David Jans and Bob Monette are saddled up in Mustangs, while Mike Lewis and Doug Peterson herd their cats – Jaguar XKRs – to the front. Mike Skeen and Tom Sheehan shoe Camaros, and there are also a handful of Pontiac GTOs, Chevy Monte Carlos and even a Dodge Intrepid. In the GGT class, you’ll see Ferraris and Porsches.

Also at Lime Rock for the weekend is racing legend Sam Posey, who is the Grand Marshal.

For the 1969 Trans Am race, Sam was called at the last minute to drive Peter Revson’s Shelby American Mustang. Revson had qualified for the Indy 500, and so in the days before bizjets were common, he would not be able to get to Lime Rock in time. (For the record, Revson started DFL, 33rd, but finished fifth in that famous 500 won by Mario Andretti.)

I don’t want to say more – you’ll have to read Sam’s riveting account of the 1969 Lime Rock Trans Am race in the Souvenir Program!”
